Extreme Rules 2013 » Triple H vs Brock Lesnar (Steel Cage Match)

Triple H narrowly avoided early retirement at the hands of Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, but if The Game thought his trouble with Lesnar would end at The Grandest Stage of Them All, he had another thing coming.

Having split two notoriously high-impact battles at SummerSlam and WrestleMania, The King of Kings and "The Beast Incarnate" will settle the score once and for all at Extreme Rules, and the rubber match will be held in the most inhospitable of environments: the steel cage. The addition of steel to this already perilous rivalry was the brainchild of Lesnar’s camp, as outlined in a challenge to Triple H on April 15.

In goading The King of Kings to accept The Anomaly’s challenge to a third fight, Lesnar associate Paul Heyman appealed to Triple H’s sense of pride, noting that The Game’s WrestleMania win merely brought him even with Lesnar. Heyman then focused on the WWE COO’s courage, acknowledging that steel cage matches offer neither protection nor mercy for the Superstars who compete within — even if they’ve already been incapacitated.

Despite the dire implications, Triple H readily agreed to the terms of the match in a confrontation with Heyman on the April 22 edition of Raw. He additionally fired a salvo Lesnar’s way by Pedigreeing his envoy, Heyman, moments after accepting the challenge.

Although The Game’s in-ring career will not formally be on the line as it was during his No Holds Barred brawl with Lesnar at WrestleMania, there is little reason to believe Triple H will approach the fight as though it’s anything less than career-threatening. As Heyman himself explained, inside the unforgiving steel cage, “a career can end in a nanosecond.”

Among the most base and wicked structures in WWE, the tried-and-true classic steel cage is perhaps the only venue with the gravitas necessary to host such a deeply personal tiebreaker. Even though it may lack the fanfare of more modernized match formats, any longtime ring observer knows that the dangerous steel cage offers plenty of opportunity for combatants to brutalize one another.

How will the result of their most recent bout — the absurdly physical No Holds Barred Match— affect both Superstars’ preparation for May 19? Will the fact Triple H won that encounter give him a psychological edge, or will it only make The Anomaly more focused and driven heading into Extreme Rules? Furthermore, Lesnar hasn’t competed in a Steel Cage Match in years, but his famous sabbatical from the squared circle gave way to a different kind of caged combat in the form of mixed martial arts. Will Lesnar’s Octagon experience represent a strength or weakness inside the realm of WWE?

If their last two bouts were any indication, Triple H vs. Lesnar III will be a hellish encounter for its participants and an unadulterated spectacle for the WWE Universe. With the bonus ingredient of a steel cage, only time will tell just how much more extreme this riveting rivalry can grow.

News » The Rock Says WrestleMania 29 Match Possibly His Last

The Rock spoke to Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg and discussed his upcoming reality series, The Hero. During the interview, The Rock admitted that his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 29 may have been his last.
"Possibly, to be honest with you," Rock replied when asked if his match against John Cena at WrestleMania 29 was his last.

"The goal three years ago was I sat down with Vince McMahon and strategized about it, about three WrestleMania's back to back... I committed myself to the company and I was very proud of that moment. It didn't matter if I lost or I did the job, but it was an honor to do the honors. There is no better way to give back... then by doing the honors."

Rock also noted Cena was "hands down" the right guy to lose to.

"People wanted to build me to a certain place, and then do things the right way. And for the business that I love, it was an awesome way, it was the best way to give back. Was it my last match? Possibly. I'm really not too sure, and I wouldn't rule it out."

Rock was also asked if the original plan was to build for a rubber match with Cena at next year's WrestleMania in New Orleans.

"No, not at all," Rock replied, before admitting that there were plans for a match with Brock Lesnar. "The original plan was possibly Brock and myself. That was the next thing that made sense to me because I love Brock, we've been friends for over a decade now and we can have a great athletic match. But then I had torn my two tendons on my pelvis and I had to fly home that day, and we couldn't do what we wanted to do on RAW that day. So... possibly, possibly with Brock down the road."

The Rock also said that he talked to Vince McMahon and Triple H the night of WrestleMania about his injury. He said that he and Vince agreed in the locker room that he wouldn't be at RAW the next day, and that he got a call from one of the writers the next day about issuing a statement on RAW, which he did.

News » Monday Night RAW - April 22, 2013 Official Preview (Live From London, Undertaker Returns To Ring & More)
According To WWE.COM, here is this week -- Monday Night RAW Official Preview.

1. Triple H headed to London

Triple H will be at Monday’s -- Raw to respond to Brock Lesnar’s challenge of a Steel Cage Match at Extreme Rules. Considering his current injury, will The Game agree to the brutal encounter? The score between the two ring warriors stands tied at 1-1, with Lesnar forcing Triple H to tap out at SummerSlam and The King of Kings winning their grueling fight at WrestleMania 29. Will the WWE Universe get to witness round three at Extreme Rules?

2. Can The Undertaker help stop The Shield?

Ever since their debut, The Shield have taken on and taken down a slew of WWE Superstars. Most recently, it was WWE Champion John Cena who was pummeled by the black-clad renegades. Now the group must tangle with one of WWE’s most dangerous Superstars, The Undertaker! Together with WWE Tag Team Champion Daniel Bryan, The Brothers of Destruction will reunite and do battle in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. Are Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose finally headed for their first loss?

3. What’s next for CM Punk?

After losing his coveted WWE Championship to The Rock and failing to beat The Streak at WrestleMania 29, CM Punk is clearly at a crossroads. Last week on Raw, The Straight Edge Superstar was so emotional about his current state of affairs that he simply dropped the microphone and walked out of the ring. The Voice of the Voiceless had gone shockingly silent. Will Punk or Paul Heyman offer any clues as to where Punk’s head is at?

4. Who will make the next move in the World Title hunt?

World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler hasn’t been able to savor his new championship for very long. He’s already been pitted to defend his title against former World Heavyweight Champions Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger in a Triple Threat Match at Extreme Rules.
Last week on Raw, tensions boiled over between the three, culminating in Swagger scoring a non-title victory over Ziggler. Is it a sign of things to come? Is it fair that SmackDown General Manager Booker T arranged for Ziggler to defend his title in a Triple Threat Match? What will unfold between the three heavyweights in London?

5. How will WWE Champion John Cena respond to Ryback?

One night after John Cena captured the WWE Title at WrestleMania, Ryback attacked him on Raw. Last week, The Shield decimated the WWE Champion as Ryback stood and watched. Will the Cenation leader look for some payback in London?
The international audience at the Raw after WrestleMania made for a legendary and raucous night. Is the WWE Universe poised to deliver another historic night in London? Tune in Monday at 8/7 CT on USA Network.
